The devices included in the Smith & Nephew Modular Hip recall were sold between October 2008 and July 2016. According to an URGENT FIELD SAFETY NOTICE issued by Smith & Nephew on November 15, 2016, affected devices included a modular neck hip prosthesis used with the Modular SMF and REDAPT Revision Femoral Hip Systems, as well as a number of SMF and REDAPT Revision hip stems. The Modular SMF hip had been associated with a complaint rate of .527%, while a 0.25% rate of complaints had been observed with the Modular REDAPT hip.
